MINUTES OF SPORT COMMITTEE January 15, 2009
CALL TO ORDER/APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES
„Ï Don opened the meeting at 6:01 p.m. in the Schmidt Room at Town Hall. „Ï Previous Minutes were approved, with correction to II/1 added Silver Trout.
I: ATTENDANCE Joanne Breigenzer, Don Hansen, Frank Gutmann, Nathan Mosley, Mary Kay Rachwalski, Marilyn Raymond, Marty Richardson, Pat & John Taylor

II: PLANNING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS 1. BRT, Segment 4 & Willow Grove Open Space Design: Bill Linfield presented plans for the ¡¦09 trail project. Plans are 95% complete and will soon go to bid. When complete, trail access will be available all the way through town off highway. Path will be 10¡¦ wide, similar to our current system. Plans also include 6 car parking lot, men¡¦s & women¡¦s restrooms that will be open year round. Public Works will maintain the area. John asked about solar possibilities? Single span bridge is 15¡¦ high, 10¡¦ wide, with a 215¡¦ crossing. Bridge will be high enough from the water to allow boating access on the river and will be fully ADA compliant. Entire budget is 2.1 million, if there becomes a budget issue, the restrooms will not be built. NEXT STEP: Meeting with CDLT, then a public open house in a month or so, out to bid by the end of February with a start date in May and completion scheduled for the fall. Frank asked, if in the future additional parking was needed is there room. Yes there is room to expand. OTHER: No submittal yet from Silver Trout Developers.
III: OLD BUSINESS 1. Swift Skedaddle: Mindy sends a big THANK YOU to everyone on the SPORT Committee who helped. 112 participants, $200 was raised and will be donated to the Scholarship Fund. Received great, positive feedback. Bill commented about the ¡§Great Volunteers¡¨ that helped. There is an article on Snowshoe Magazine website. John suggested, and handed out, a possible survey to send to the top finishers for feedback. 2. Joint Work Session January 27th: Please RSVP if you plan to attend either to Joanne or Liz.
IV: NEW BUSINESS / PRESENTATIONS: 1. 2009 SPORT goals ¡V prioritize Winter/Spring: Parks: 1. Update Rainbow Park Master Plan ¡V March ¡¦09 when Susan returns from Maternity leave. ComDev will let us know if this is possible. 2. Assist with selection of new playground equipment for Rainbow Park ¡V After #1 is completed - Fall 3. Art in Public Places, establish sites (continued from 2008) ¡V Winter ¡¦09 Mary Kay and Pat will suggest locations 4. Visit open space as potential spaces for pocket parks. ¡V Spring/Summer ¡¦09 Recreation 1. Fish stocking ¡V research if additional stocking is necessary in addition to current program (currently, the Town stocks Trent and the DOW stocks the Blue River. ¡V Spring/Summer ¡¦09 John will research 2. Fisherman access ¡V work to educate public regarding existing access points (create map or list of access points) and identify additional fishing sites as outlined in the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan. ¡V Winter ¡¦09 Don and Nathan Trails: 1. Blue River Trail ¡V continue to be involved and comment about project. On-going 2. Angler Mtn. Ranch connection to Ptarmigan Trail ¡V continue to comment about project and offer resources if needed. ¡V Summer ¡¦09 John & Marty 3. Adopt-A-Trail ¡V recruit sponsors for BRT Segments 3 & 4 and Angler Mtn. Ranch. - Spring ¡¦09 Don, Mary Kay, Frank, Marilyn Other: 1. Review Parks, Trails, and Open Space master Plan during meetings.- On-going Potential Mini-Projects: Parks: 1. Boot¡¦s Park ¡V clean up site, consider improved access to area, install a table, or add signage.- Spring/Summer ¡¦09 ¡V conduct a walk thru 2. North lawn of Pavilion ¡V clean up dead fall and trash along river (it is not in SPORT¡¦s scope to suggest any improvements in the field area). ¡V Summer ¡¥09 Open Space: 1. Willow Grove Open Space trail around lake and new trail head ¡V clean up site and trail within guidelines of Conservation Easement, consider removal of fire pit and white landscaping rocks. ¡V Fall ¡¦09 ¡V involve residents as well. Trails: 1. Signs for Angler Mtn. Ranch ¡V create appropriate signage, order signs and materials, install signs. ¡V Winter/Summer ¡¦09 John 2. Brush and trash clean up near bike path by Red Village. - Summer ¡¥09

VI. SEASONAL PARKS & FACILITIES OPERATIONS REPORTS 1. Willow Grove Open Space Rules and Regulations: Draft of rules has gone out and comment deadline is January 16, 2009. Hope to have signs up by spring.
