MINUTES OF SPORT COMMITTEE
July 16, 2009

CALL TO ORDER/APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES
„Ï Don opened the meeting at 6:01 p.m. in the Schmidt Room at Town Hall.
„Ï Previous Minutes: motion to approve from Tom, seconded by Mary Kay.

I: ATTENDANCE
Joanne Breigenzer, Tom Dopplick, Don Hansen, Frank Gutmann, Michael Johnson, Mary Kay Rachwalski, Marilyn Raymond, John Taylor

Absent: Bruce Butler, Nathan Mosley, Pat Taylor
Guests: Tory Hauser, USTSA; Tim Crane, Angler Mtn. Ranch

II: PLANNING DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
1. Review Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan: Implementation pgs. 4-1 through 4-9: This section simply states ¡§How to Implement The Plan.¡¨ This is also a good reference for finding sources of funding. If this plan is ever updated, this section should be done as well. This is complete and will be tabled from future agendas/minutes.
2. Angler Mountain Ranch Trail update / grand opening planning: John and Michael have walked the trail and it is pretty close to being done. John felt it is ¡§plenty wide¡¨ but there¡¦s still some cleanup needed. Rocky Mtn. Youth Corp will be using the road for camping while working on the trail. The trail is on track for the August 20th grand opening. For the opening a press release will be done, invitations and emails will be sent, to include Rocky Mtn. Youth Corp., USFS, Friends of Dillon Ranger District and Friends of Eagles Nest. Grand Opening will be from 4-5pm. The Mayor will be asked to say a few words; we will have light refreshments and invite the media. Tim Crane mentioned that he will have water bottles available to hand out. John, Tim, and Joe will work on getting signage in place prior to the grand opening.
The Town of Silverthorne will be responsible for the trail and maintenance.

III: OLD BUSINESS
1. 2009 SPORT Winter Goals:
a. Fishermen access: No update. Don and Nathan will meet when Nathan gets back in town.
b. Mini-Project: Angler Mtn. Signs: Work in progress with John and Michael.
2. 2009 Spring Goals:
a. Visit open space as potential pocket park sites: Liz will shoot out some dates for another ¡§walk about.¡¨
b. Adopt-A-Trail recruit sponsors for BRT Segments 3 & 4: Marilyn spoke with folks at The Ponds but is asking if SPORT would draft a letter to the Board asking for sponsorship? Mary Kay agreed to work on the letter.
c. Fish stocking ¡V research: Water Quality Report is in.
3. 2009 Summer Goals:
a. Angler Mtn. Ranch connection to Ptarmigan Trail: discussed.
b. Boot¡¦s Park ¡V cleanup site, consider improved access to area, install a table, and/or signage: Site looks good, the out of place bench has been reported/added to Bill¡¦s list. This is complete and will be tabled from future agendas/minutes.


IV: NEW BUSINESS / PRESENTATIONS:
1. Tory Hauser, United States Telemark Ski Association Events Director for World Cup Races. Tory is a Silverthorne resident, a former EDAC member, businessman, ski coach, race official and father of Drew Hauser, men¡¦s Junior World Champion! Tory is asking for support from the SPORT Committee to help bring a Telemark World Cup event to Summit County next year. He would love to have Silverthorne as the ¡§Host¡¨ for the event utilizing the Pavilion and local lodging establishments for participating racers. He handed out a summary of what is needed to put on such a world event and asked if SPORT would be interested in being involved in the organizing committee. Tory has asked that SPORT help put the word out for support of this event. Tory can be reached at toryhauser@comcast.net
2. Rainbow Park Master Plan Update, GOCO grant opportunity: Joanne and Michael met with Wally Piccone re: Site Plan Planning Grants available. Bill, Michael and Joanne will get together on grant application, $ should be available in January. This is right in line with the new equipment Bill hoped to get next spring. It was suggested that pictures of Rainbow park are taken now, prior to snowfall!
OTHER: John will GPS the 10K course.

V: PARKS, TRAILS & OPEN SPACE PROJECTS ¡V REPORTS & UPDATE
1. Update on Blue River Trail Segment 4:
~The foundation for the restrooms is in.
~High water is slowing progress on the abutment and retaining wall components.
~Bridge (expected delivery is during the last week of August, pending no setbacks) component to be completed by late August or early September, well before October 1st deadline.

VI. SEASONAL PARKS & FACILITIES OPERATIONS REPORTS


OTHER: The Committee was in support of Tory and his efforts to bring a World Cup Event to Silverthorne. If Committee members are interested in volunteering, please contact Tory at toryhauser@comcast.net

Next meeting: August 20, 2009 ¡V The Grand Opening of the Angler Mountain Ranch Trail will supersede the SPORT meeting.
